Shawnee is the Founder of Asanas for Autism and Special Needs. She is the author of the book Asanas for Autism and Special Needs - Yoga to Help children with their Emotions, Self-Regulation and Body-Awareness and the creator of the C.A.L.M.M Yoga Toolkit.

She is a M.Ed., Behavior/Educational Specialist, C-IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist, ERYT-500 and an RCYT (Registered Childrens Yoga Teacher) through Yoga Alliance.

 

Shawnee has worked with children and adults with autism and special needs for 17+ years. She has specialized in working with children and young adults who have significant cognitive and language delays, sensory processing deficits, as well as severe behavior challenges.

Through her study and experience teaching yoga to her students in her program she quickly realized the benefits of yoga on her students attention and focus, reduced anxiety, body awareness and development of calming strategies. She also noticed the positive reaction from her students and the excitement they displayed each time they practiced yoga. She has experienced first hand the benefits yoga can provide to health and overall well-being. She has a unique combination of understanding autism and other special needs and knowing how to teach and reach these young people. Her goal is to bring the experience of yoga to all individuals no matter their differences or challenges.

Shawnee has contributed to several magazines, online journals and blogs and has partnered with many organizations who also share the passion for supporting children and adults with specail needs. See her articles, media features and partnerships here.

Shawnee shares her experience, knowledge and passion for sharing yoga with children and adults of any and all abilities through her Yoga Alliance approved trainings.

Shawnee also offers private, small group therapeutic sessions and for adults as well as yoga workshops and trainings through her company ABLE Yoga Therapy.
