Sonya Sweeney, MA, OTR/L


Sonya Sweeney provides OT services to children ages 3-18 in a school-based setting, as well as to adults with dementia residing at a long-term care skilled nursing facility. In her work with adults with dementia, Sonya serves as a primary therapist, implementing the Abilities Care Approach™, an occupational-based dementia

program. In addition, as part of an interdisciplinary team, Sonya developed and serves as a primary trainer for a 6 ½ hour staff training for certified nursing assistants, nurses, etc. to increase their skills, knowledge, and abilities in assisting with the implementation of the Abilities Care Approach™.  


Sonya Sweeney earned her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Sonoma State University’s Hutchins School of Liberal Studies, and then went on to earn her Masters in Occupational Therapy from Samuel Merritt University.
